GREAT advice. I still journal like that even years into Paganism, so I can get an overview of where I stand on my path. Sometimes I realize that I'm still in the mindset of miles back, but I'm standing somewhere totally different!

This was basically what I would have told the OP. Either that or just research like mad. But I understand not everyone likes to read and absorb info like my nerdy self does haha.

I've gone back to this journaling process in an attempt to re-sort-myself-out recently. It's so useful. And really, my first "Book of Shadows" was a combination of a sorting-myself-out book and a place to put snippets of research.

(It's a little cringeworthy 15 years later, mostly because half of it was about the trainwreck of my love life at the time and all the dream interpretation and spells and divinations I did in an attempt to make some sense of it, when the real answer was "None of these guys! Wait 10 years!" But that's another story.)

But anyway, I put all sorts of thoughts and poetry quotes and anything I really liked from books, and leaving aside the love-life stuff, it's interesting to read back through it and see what the journey was. I started out not having any idea what pantheon(s) to study or what I wanted to do in ritual, and it starts coalescing after a while and distilling down to a few things.

Thank you for sharing that. It pinged something in the back of my mind about the bazillion excuses I make to not keep a journal. I think I'm a lot closer to keeping one than I was before I read your post.
