A pony found in Dartmoor, England, in July apparently died under  mysterious and horrific circumstances: It had been mutilated, and  several of its organs were missing, which fueled speculation that it was  killed in some sort of satanic or pagan ritual sacrifice.

Devon  and Cornwall police concluded this week that the pony had died of  natural causes. The much-discussed "mutilation" was not, in fact,  mutilation at all, but instead the normal result of wild animals eating  the pony's organs and scattering its entrails.

I remember seeing a show on (I think) National Geographic where a sheriff somewhere in the Southwest US did an experiment to debunk the livestock mutilation phenomenon.  She had a horse that died from natural causes left in an isolated field and pointed a bunch of hidden cameras at it.  Turns out it was the work of scavengers.

Fact or Faked did something like this too. The owner of the ranch claimed there was no way the mutilations were done by animals because the cuts were so "precise." The FoF team did an experiment with a balloon under un-treated leather and it turned out that the "precise" rips could be caused by compressed air bursting through organs filled with gas.

Besides, everyone knows satanic cultists only sacrifice unbaptized children.

A lot of privately and illegally kept animals escape onto Exmoor  and Dartmoor (big cats etc..) so there are stories and sightings of creatures like the 'black beast of Exmoor'.  I think at one time a small colony of wallabies started up due to a Zoo escape.

The Exmoor ponies have a tough time, often starve and die in the Winter, they have nothing to do with Satan.

Sigh. That's why there are alligators in parts of the San Antonio River (in San Antonio) -- pet alligators escaped. They are cute at 10-12 inches, but not so much when they are bigger.
