Brigid & the Badger
« on: July 25, 2011, 06:41:36 pm »
I mentioned over on the "It's my shift and I'm..." thread that I was working on a project during my last Flamekeeping shift and that I would share pictures after I was finished. So I thought I'd start a separate thread so as not to clutter up that one.

Recently I've begun doing some deeper journey work to seek out and cultivate relationships with, for lack of a better term, "animal spirit helpers." The first I met was Badger, who has in only a few short weeks become a steadfast companion during my work. I also suspect (pure UPG here) that Badger might have some connection to Brigid - a burrowing animal similar to a groundhog with connections to the underworld and also fierce strength, it also has some solar associations, and recently during some journey work Badger pointed out to me (although a bit teasingly) that, like Brigid was describe by Lady Gregory, badger's too have faces that are "half fair and bright, and half dark and ugly" - just not all one half and all the other!

Regardless, I feel there's at least some affinity between Badger and Brigid, so I asked Brigid's blessings during my shift this past round to help me find a stone that would be appropriate for Badger to keep on my altar. I went for a long period of meditative hillwalking in the woods near where I live at the start of my shift, and then the following afternoon completed the project so it would be ready by the end of my shift that evening.

So here are the pictures, as promised! I apologize for them being a bit blurry. I was in a light trance while doing this work, which apparently means I'm pretty crappy at operating a camera! ;)

Supplies set up and ready to go, including Brigid's candle and incense for smudging, plus iPod with journey drumming track.

The stone.

Transferring the image onto the stone.

The Badger Stone almost complete, I make offerings of dark chocolate and really good beer (the best stuff we have in the house) to honor Badger and invite him in.

The completed Badger Stone.

That's all! Now the Badger Stone is nestled nicely on my altar. :) Seems pretty happy there.
