Explosion in Oslo center, one confirmed dead so far, seems like it was probably a car bomb. Several government buildings were hit.

I'm watching this closely, now. Multiple car bombs, supposedly detonated with mobile phones. Two deaths. I'm lighting up a vigil for these poor people, now.

Thanks. The latest news are mostly about the shootings at Utøya youth camp for the Labor party. A man dressed as a policeman wounded and possibly killed a lot of children between 14 and 25 yo, but thankfully they've caught him from what I understand. Current numbers are 25-30 heavily injured or dead.

There is something about getting a message from ones kid saying "Don't call me, I need to hide" that must be gut wrenching...

As a norwegian I can honestly say that this is horrible. Both the bombing in Oslo and the shooting of innocent people right outside of Oslo.

This is a dark day in norwegian history...

Whenever and wherever something like this happens it's a dark day for civilization. My prayers and good thought go out to the people of Norway, especially those directly affected by these horrible attacks.

He says that he has been told the island shooter was Nordic and says that the government will continue to function despite the heavy damage to its administrative buildings in the capital.

Off topic, but need a Norwegian opinion.

Is Aftenposten a reliable newspaper?  Do they get facts correct or do they just make them up?

Aftenposten is Oslo-centric, probably conservative oriented, but otherwise respected. It's my second choice after my local paper.

OTOH, avoid VG like the plague and Dagbladet most of the time (the latter is more correctish, but they do tend to live off sex and violence).

Thanks. My Norwegian is dictionary look up. Good enough for ordering food (can't afford your beer) but not for trying to read stuff. Aftenposten has an English version I might reference in another forum.

I was here with my family tonight: (The translation is horrid, but it's all google can do) http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&sl=no&tl=en&u=http://www.bt.no/nyheter/lokalt/Sorgtungt-p-Ostery-2543457.html

Osterøy has 7000 inhabitants - two people gone is noticable, particularly one so active in politics and the newspaper as Eikeland.
