Re: When deities DON'T like your offerings?
I don't notice much (Dionysus tends to be alright with whatever... or at least gives me a "Eh, I'll take it." response). I was rather surprised once, actually. I once gave a pastry to Dionysus and was accepted pretty well. Then, whenever I felt like eating one, I felt like I should give half to Dionysus.
Whether this says that I will continue to lose half of that pastry or it's just a random urge in and of itself, I don't know. It would amuse me if it did though. At least I know who to share them with now.

Well, yeah.
I don't mean to say that every offering has to be fully researched before it's done, or that we should stick to things we know they like and never experiment, or whatever. In the context of the original question, though--I do think that if a deity expresses a preference against a particular offering, it's at a bare minimum good manners to be considerate of that.

Re: When deities DON'T like your offerings?
Happily Bast seems to like many of the things that I do (chocolate, fruits and fruit juices, meats and cheeses). But there are things I really like that She doesn't seem to care for, so naturally I don't offer those. I tried a mocha frappuchino the other day because She seemed curious about it, but the response was a definite "meh." Hmm...actually, it seems like caffeinated drinks in general tend to get a lukewarm reaction from Her--she doesn't seem to care for chai either. (It's possibly because She thinks I need to drink less caffeine and sugar.

Re: When deities DON'T like your offerings?
I offered some grape-flavored water to Aset once and she was...not pleased. When I went to drink it, it tasted so bad that I stumbled and almost fell over! It tasted fine before I offered it though, so...yeah. She probably didn't like it because it was fairly cheap, but I figured it would be fine because Yinepu is fine with it. Obviously it wasn't fine. Later I offered her some gourmet incense, and that went over smoothly.

Re: When deities DON'T like your offerings?
I can see why sugar-water didn't go over well. Heh.
With Aset the cheapness of the offering isn't really the issue. It's the quality of the food that matters. I've offered Her defrosted frozen vegetables that didn't cost me much for a pound of them. She liked those. Milk and fruit go over well too. Chocolate and pastries too.
Here's something to keep in mind when you're offering. I'm finding this helps me. When you offer to a Netjer you are renewing your own life force (ka) and the life force of that deity. At the same time, when you eat the offering, you are again renewing your life force.
Aset is the goddess over this process as the Mistress of Heka (ka energy in motion). Thinking,
1. What will I renew Her with?
2. What will I renew myself with?
3. What will I preserve my life-force with?
This may help you decide on what to offer Her.I am the Goddess of Who I can Become. I mix the magic of the sorceress with the blade of a warrior. I walk the liminal pathways to see the face of the Goddess, both terrible and kind. As She stares back at me, I tremble in awe and ecstasy. --SatAset
