Dumbest Thing You've Heard a Pagan Say
« on: August 09, 2012, 05:44:49 pm »
Many years ago, a (now ex) friend of mine and I were out, talking about Wicca.  I was new to it all and curious, and she'd been into it on a solitary basis for a couple of years or so.

We were in a grocery store parking lot when a young woman walked by us with bright orange hair, wearing all black, sporting tattoos and piercings.  I didn't think much of it, but my (now ex for many reasons beyond just this!) friend looked at her and said, "Oh. I bet she thinks she's Wiccan. She can't possibly be; look at her, she's overweight and doesn't take care of herself and she dresses like crap!"

...dumbest thing I've heard a pagan say. Ever.

Your turn.

We should all celebrate the 8 festivals that Wicca does.

Oh my... so many, many things... what to pick?

'Witches never do something for personal gain.'
'We all follow the threefold law and the rede.'
'Karma is going to 'get' him/her/it...'

So many, many things...:stop:
\'You had to repay, good or bad. There was more than one type of obligation.
That’s what people never really understood.….Things had to balance.
You couldn’t set out to be a good witch or a bad witch. It never worked out for long.
All you could try to be was a witch, as hard as you could.\'
Terry Pratchett \'Lords and Ladies\'

Confuzzled and proud. :p

As Tana said; so many, many things.

I think I might go with: "The Christians Stole Yule/Ostara"

That and "All Pagans follow the Rede" would be my top two.

"You can't be pagan and..."

There's a long list of "commandments" that start with this statement.  I see them as virtually identical, so I don't even bother differentiating.  They're all equally moronic.

There was an "atheist Druid" in one of my religion classes who said "if you are Pagan you believe in harming none" and this was someone who claimed that she was *raised* Pagan and should really have known better.

"If you're pagan, you shouldn't eat meat!"
"All pagan religions are earth-based."
And a lot more...

And also I remember a wiccan guy in another forum who asked if the "Saints" from anime Saint Seiya were real, because he felt the Libra saint wanted to kill him. I think he needed professional help.

It does bother me when Pagans are ignorant about environmental issues; it seems conflicting to me....but it seems conflicting to me for anyone who is concerned about their Physical Health or their Children's Future to be ignorant about environmental issues, so clearly I'm biased.

However, saying "all pagan religions are earth-based"....well, we all know why that's stupid.

....The first "Dumbest thing" I could think of was back before I knew anything about paganism, and someone told me she had become a Witch or Wiccan or something. Anyway, she told me it was "okay to do bad things" because she could just ask the Goddess to forgive her later. I also want to say there was something about the three-fold rule that she could like cancel out her bad deeds by doing three good things...or maybe that was just with magic. Ah, youth.

Also, there was that thing about the person being the reincarnation of the soul of Sonic the Hedgehog....

I think this thread could go on for awhile. :)

Let's see, one that sticks out for me is: "I was Kemetic before the term came around"  Really?  You were Kemetic before the ancients called their land Kemet all those thousands of years ago?
