Mark Stinson Accused Of Stealing Money From His Mother
Here's the link to the story. http://www.kctv5.com/story/18943111/...rom-his-mother
I read this a while ago and was quite distraught (Mark being something of a pagan role model for me.) I thought I'd just leave this here for people to see.
Any thoughts on this? I was planning on popping into the JBK forums soonish to see what's going on over there.

Re: Mark Stinson Accused Of Stealing Money From His Mother
I for one find this accusation appalling, especially since many Heathens are so vocal about Heathenry being a "family religion". If true, this doesn't exactly cast Stinson in a favourable light with me (not that I had a very favourable impression of him from the start).
However, at this point there's really not enough information out there regarding the case. So it seems like all anyone can do is wait and see before more info becomes available.

Re: Mark Stinson Accused Of Stealing Money From His Mother
This has been out there for a couple of weeks now, to the point that it's even been dubbed 'Stinsongate' by those who are viewing him in an even more negative light.
I have openly stated in several places and will state so here, that I don't really care about the money aspect. Well, I do, insofar as it impacts his reputation. But I am perfectly happy to let the court system work on that.
What does NOT seem to be in question, and what I and most others find the most apalling, is that he allowed his mother to be evicted from the managed care facility that *he put her in*. HE accepted responsibility for the management of her care, housing, medical needs, etc. This means that, no matter what the cause of the missing money (either simple mismanagement or something more sinister), he has failed abysmally and spectacularly in a serious matter. Possibly the most serious of all, the care of one's own *living Disir*.
I cannot think of anything closer to a mortal sin for us than this, frankly. At this point I could not possibly care less what the root cause is, the fact remains that his mother was ejected from her home and medical needs because he failed in his duties.
I am so, so tired of all the Stinson apologists out there saying that we don't know all the facts, we shouldn't rush to judge, etc etc etc.
You know what? I know all the facts I need to. His mom got evicted from a nursing home, while he was busy building a nice temple in his house with space that could conceivably have been used to give his mother a place to live.
And this from a man who talked up a huge show about the importance of family, all while bad mouthing many good heathens that I consider friends.

IIRC a durable power of attorney makes you legally that person as far as access to accounts and legal paperwork goes. That doesn't mean your actions won't be considered theft it just means that usual safeguards like checking that ID matches the name on the account etc are irrelevant.

Re: Mark Stinson Accused Of Stealing Money From His Mother
I agree. I had to set up a power of attorney (can't remember which 'flavor') with a friend when I was in the military and just because she had the paper she didn't have de facto power she still had to present it and prove it was authentic etc. TPTB that handled that sorta thing on our installation were adamant about how dangerous handing such a thing over to another person could be and were very very leery of ever doing the type that was basically carte blanche for the user. That said one would assume that the bank etc would file a copy for their own records and such.
