Creating a Brigit Shrine
As part of my ADF work, among other things, I'm going to set up a Brigit shrine soon. I have a statue on top of a 3-shelf book case right now. That's about it.
I wanted to see what sorts of thoughts and suggestions you all had on what I could include in a functional shrine. I don't have a lot of money at the moment, but I am fairly crafty.

My Brighid shelf (don't know why, but I don't like to call it a shrine) has an oil lamp that I use for flame tending; an LED candle that stays on all the time; the crosses, brats, and prayer beads I've received in cill exchanges; a couple of candle holders for when I feel the need for more fire (including one with a sun design); an offering vessel (which happens to be a very special shot glass); a ceramic pot that holds non-perishable offering items until I figure out what to do with them; some rocks and shells; and a few artistic representations of Brighid and Her symbols. Oh, and an oil diffuser that I haven't used in a long time but probably will again in the winter. I also keep the prayer beads I use during shifts there.
The artistic representations include a small, abstract goddess sculpture that was the first "pagany" thing I bought, IIRC; a small Brighid's cross painting done by NibbleKat; a ceramic Brighid's cross tile done by Erin Nightwalker; several drawings and cards I've received from cill-mates and other special friends; a sheep my daughter made years ago; and a stuffed cow (that moos when squeezed). I'm in the process of designing a ceramic "shrine" piece with Erin, but I think it's going to take me quite a while to get that right.
There is also way too much dust on my shelf at the moment...

Re: Creating a Brigit Shrine
My Brighid shrine is made up of mostly gifts from my mother. I have a Brighid's cross, two dragon candle holders with tealights in them (Mom got these in Bath, England at the Sulis Minerva shrine), a pendant of Brighid on bone and another pendant of Hers in pewter. I have two offering glasses that I put water in during my shifts.
I am the Goddess of Who I can Become. I mix the magic of the sorceress with the blade of a warrior. I walk the liminal pathways to see the face of the Goddess, both terrible and kind. As She stares back at me, I tremble in awe and ecstasy. --SatAset

Re: Creating a Brigit Shrine
I have a small devotional painting of Brighid as the Lady of the Stars/Starsmith that I commissioned from our very own NibbleKat. I also have a small vase carved with an image of the sea and stars, a large double-wicked vanilla candle, and a few other odds and ends - mostly featuring triskelles - that end up getting incorporated on the shrine. For me, simple is better - too much stuff on an altar makes me twitchy.
Check out Elysian Harvest, the business I run with my friend. I do jewelry, she does ceramics, we both do awesome.

Re: Creating a Brigit Shrine
The big things for me is that 1) I have water from Her well in Ireland and 2) I make all the candles on my shrine(s) myself (that when are first lit I light from a blessed candle from Kildare that I friend brought me back). I generally have a main candle (usually plain beeswax) plus other candles I use for specific prayer blessings/requests.
I also have small statures of Brigit and Mary, usually some piece of jewellery I've made, and a small glass decorated with gold flames I use for libation offerings. Other decorations change now and again, but those elements generally remain constant.
I've included two pictures, of my shrine in our old house, and the new one (which is still a little bit of a work in progress, but I like what I have so far).

Isn't it, though? I wish I could lay full claim to it, but it was already there when I got here; I think I literally gasped when I saw it. (It's set into the wall of the pantry, and the back panel comes off; the previous owners built it as a little puppet theatre for their kids.)
