    Friend seriously ill with cancer

    Hey all,

A couple weeks ago, we found out that a friend's almost-14 year old daughter has stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She just started chemo on Friday night and it's been a steep learning curve with the drugs. She's had a small seizure, and then I heard yesterday that she's had an allergic reaction to one of the drugs.

Her parents are divorced, and she's living with her grandmother, mom, her two brothers, and a couple other folks. Her Dad is supportive, local, and in the picture, but there's a bit of friction with the two parents having to interact so much at the hospital.

To top it off, her mother's not working and her dad just got a job last month, so the health insurance hasn't kicked in. A few of us are working on fundraising for their bills. If you'd like to donate, you can do so here.

At any rate, I've been asked to do whatever I can on the witchy side to help Catie out, so I wanted to start tapping in to my resources. Any prayers or energies you can give to Catie and her family for strength and healing would be appreciated.

If you're going to send healing energy to Catie directly, I'd suggest you make it as gentle as possible. She's a bit fragile right now, and I wouldn't want the work to overwhelm her. I'm going to be starting on a weekly course of healing work myself this week. If you'd like to do that in concert with me, I'll be doing it on Wednesday nights.

If you want more particulars, you can PM me. The chemo's going to last for several months, if not close to a year, so we're all digging in for the long haul. She's a good kid and if nothing else, I want her to be able to keep up with her friends starting high school next month.

    Thanks,
    Karen

I would add to this the usual precautionary note: sending broad-spectrum healing energy is not always a good idea when dealing with cancer patients. Cancer is what happens when some part of the body gets really obsessed with living forever, and general healing energy is delicious to that impulse.

Cancer has touched my family as well in the past, so my thoughts are with both of you, as Cancer is an illness that afflicts communities as well as people.

Good catch. I didn't think of that. My goals with my work is to give her energy to stay strong while fighting the lymphoma, while at the same time hoping to do some metaphysical battle with the cancer itself. I'm not entirely sure what Hodgkin's lymphoma is, except that it deals with lymph nodes. The doctors are optimistic of her prognosis at this point. Course, it's a long road to walk, too.
