Andy Griffith died today. I grew up with the Andy Griffith Show although much of his latter work in TV movies and in Matlock did not do much for me.

He was born the same year as my dad.

I grew up with Sheriff Andy as well. Mom was the "Matlock" fan, though.

While I watched the Mayberry town sheriff everyday that I can recall it was his movie Angel in my Pocket that always stuck with me. He never cared for it so its never been released to video but it has stuck with me since I first saw it.

Gotta admit it's entertaining to watch the opening and see Opie then and know what a director Ron Howard has turned in to.

I didn't know until listening to a radio host talking about Griffith's passing that the theme song from the Andy Griffith Show had words to it, but they actually played the vocal version. Sounds like the kind of stuff my grandpa would sing around the house.

Long ago, the reruns in San Antonio used to start about 3-4 minutes before my father would get home from work. One of our chihuahuas was "dad's dog" and she would start howling with the music because she knew it meant he would soon be home. Even years later, whenever she heard the music, she's start howling. Note she could be sitting in his lap when the music started and she'd still howl.
