Oh Loki, I just can't get you out of my head....

Well a few years ago, I practiced Norse Paganism and my "patron" or main deity was Thor. I wore my Mjolnir nice and proud and I saw little signs of his presence in the most unexpected places.
But I still let the doubt (and some psychological issues) get to me and for the past 2 or so years I broke off from my faith and I've just been a floating agnostic until now.
I mean, I loved my Norse Gods regardless, I just felt a complete absence of them.

It hasn't been easy, especially with my psychosis f*ing up reality as it is, but I've been wanting to get back in to it.

But I really can't get Loki out of my head... I dont even think I've thought about Thor this much when I was constantly trying to connect with him.
I've pretty much finished the Loki section in Galina Krasskova's 'Feeding the Flame', but I dont 100% agree with how she does things, it's a bit too much "fluff" for my liking.
I tried to invoke him, (and I think I did?) and he told me in my mind and through the Runes that he'll help me, and I've already learned so much since then (I'm just thankful he hasn't done anything harsh yet...)

But I'm STILL extremely skeptical over this whole coming back to Paganism thing. I know I need to open my minds eye and take into account all the unexplained things that happened a few years ago, but it's just so hard. And especially with my condition, I really feel like it's all in my head and I need to be medicated or something.

I decided that I need to associate myself with Norse Pagans more, but living in Adelaide, South Australia, I feel like thats very much impossible.

But what can I do to make my bond with Loki stronger and more real? It's a bit hard to make drastic living changes, seeing as at 22 I'm STILL living with my parents (who are Catholic) and it's not like I can set up a big elaborate alter. My alters simple and temporary... right now it doesn't really look like anything.

    Thanks guys ^-^

If you're interested in getting a lot of ideas from a variety of perspectives, I run a rather large networking group for Lokeans and Lokean-friendly people. (We're closing in on 250 people.) I could toss you an invite if you wanted to ask questions and get some ideas.

There's also my Loki-friendly "Alternative Norse/Germanic Paths" group, although it's not as busy as the Lokeans group Razoth mentioned.

Have you seen Galina Krasskova's blog? It's here: http://krasskova.weebly.com.

She has a "Month of Honoring Loki" up right now. There are guest articles about Loki there too. It might give you more perspectives than just one book.

When Loki came into my life, He did that too. He appeared inside my head one day and never went away.

Did you invoke Him or... what did you do? I may be wrong, but I think invoking deities is not a good idea...

Well, if you have a therapist, or a doctor that's treating your condition, you can tell him/her about this. There's no way for the rest of us to know if what you're experiencing is real or just in your head. :/

Don't worry, Loki is not a lover of formality. I never had an altar for Him, just an offering every once in a while. He likes coffee (UPG).

Umm well I just lit a few candles, lit some frankincense, put on some ambient music and ask for his help.
I guess I invoked his presence?

And no I'm not seeing anyone. The condition isn't a constant thing, I can kind of feel when it's not there. I've thought of seeing someone and got as far as a referral from the doctor, but nothing horrible has happened. I'll see how I go.

First, I'm sorry to hear about your psychological difficulties as of late. My condolences for your suffering.

I'm an atheist so I'm hardly Mr. Sympathetic in terms of "don't feel the presence of various gods," but if I may at least try to offer something semi-helpful, I don't think that you necessarily need to be medicated.

Perhaps it might help to conceptualize your favored deities more as psychological archetypes representing character traits, and perhaps the kind of "motive power" that makes you want to exercise those traits, rather than as transcendent entities (I'm not suggesting you permanently alter your theology in order to do this, just giving a suggestion of something that might help).

An example: I am an atheist, but I find the story of Prometheus to be extremely compelling (although I am absolutely on Prometheus's side). Goethe's poem Prometheus, and also the song "Icarus" from the video game Deus Ex: Human Revolution (the game is full of that kind of "Promethean" symbolism... the idea of Transhumanism as "stealing fire from the Gods and raising man up to their level" etc etc) absolutely move me in deeply emotional ways.

I think it reasonable to speculate that where I would see my experiences as an instance of reinforcement, validation and (metaphorical) 'communion' with the Promethean values I admire and consider as part of my philosophy, a Pagan person would probably interpret my experiences as some sort of contact with the relevant entities.

This might be able to help you. Try by characterizing the deities you feel/felt closest to. Do it in a nonfiction, dry form... i.e. "Thor is X, Y, Z, Loki is A, B, C" etc.

Then try to find art (songs are a great choice) which inspires X, Y, Z or A, B, C (or any combination thereof). Art is great at stimulating the feelings-y part of the brain (apologies for the non-technical terminology).

Perhaps that might help you feel closer to your Gods? And it requires no complicated rituals that might make your parents ask uncomfortable questions.
