Re: Why Did You Take The Path You Took?
Well my mum has somewhat broke off from the church (after many, many, MANY years) so she's a little more open minded. I think she knows that I have my own weird set of beliefs, though she's never asked and probably never will.
My dad on the other hand.... would think it's hilarious and wouldn't think serious of anything I say...
Because you know... worshiping many gods is so ridiculous as opposed to one, right?
And yes, the Avengers was an amaaaazing movie =D

Re: Why Did You Take The Path You Took?
Several different things: a need for cultural roots, curiosity, a dream...
The story telling, the folklore, the history. I like that it doesn't contradict science. I like the deeper explanations (ie, Odin's ravens carry the souls of the dead because ravens literally pick at the dead bodies on the battlefields). I also like that it isn't really religious, per se. Its a way of life more than anything. What is it about your current religion that appeals to you?
Ancestry. Heritage. Residence. Why, out of all the religions avaliable, did you pick the one you picked?

Re: Why Did You Take The Path You Took?
I don't mind. I mention it a lot, actually, because its the cornerstone of who I am spiritually.
A few years ago I had a dream that I was standing in an ancient town, on a road, during a carneval. A parade procession was passing through and I noticed a friend of mine was in it. He was on a type of litter, sitting cross-legged, carried by women dressed all in white. People were dancing and eating and banners lined the buildings. I went up to him, looked in his cold eyes, and knew I'd never see him again. I wasn't sad...it was a good place.
Anyway. While I was dreaming that, that same friend had hanged himself an ocean away that day (my night). I didn't know until after the dream.
And it's not an unusual phenomenon. Sigmund Freud even had a friend he described as intelligent and trustworthy who had had the same experience (also with a suicide.)
When I found the road, the women, and the carneval in Germanic conceptions of the dead/afterlife, it was big (HUGE) motivator for exploring that worldview.Last edited by Juniperberry; 8 Jul 2012 at 02:28 AM. Reason: fix
