    High John The Conquerer Oil

I managed to get some genuine High John root which is a bit difficult over here. Like it is difficult to find real Hoodoo products.

Now I am about to start my own stuff because of this.

The recipe for High John Oil seems rather simple.
Crush the root, put in Oil (I'll use Jojoba for the longest shelf life I think, suggested were also sunflower and peanut oil) and expose to sunlight for 7 days. Strain, bottle - done.

Any other recipes you are familiar with?
'You had to repay, good or bad. There was more than one type of obligation.
That’s what people never really understood.….Things had to balance.
You couldn’t set out to be a good witch or a bad witch. It never worked out for long.
All you could try to be was a witch, as hard as you could.'

Yes but I'll have to just check before I post which means this evening. I make a lot of oils with that method though.

If you want a reliable European supplier St Martha's Botanica is excellent. About the only reason I have to visit Glastonbury!

I'm so going to shop there, when we visit.

    I did!

Just checked my recipe - it is essentially identical to the one you are using but with olive oil as a further oil option. I seem to use olive oil a lot mainly because I always have some to hand.

I have one major problem with olive oil - I am not very fond of its smell.
And Jojoba has the great advantage that it is basically not turning rancid at all, and it is very nice to the skin.

Catherine Yronwode talks about this recipe briefly and it appears your recipe is the standard. She does talk about adding the traditional colour and using essential oils to combat the smell of the root though. http://www.luckymojo.com/esoteric/oc...s/recipes.html
The recipe is just over half way down the page.

Ah, right, I remember that page, thanks for digging it up!

How you think one does color an oil? Food color for sure?

I've had a little trouble with food colouring to colour oil, because it is water based. But I have heard that if you heat it in the microwave for about a minute, you can mix in the colouring a drop at a time. I haven't tried it yet.

Or you could use oil based food colouring but I have no idea how easy that is to find.

Mmh, yes I thought that there might be a problem.
I have food color powders, I will just find out by trial and error, I guess.
