Aww why can't I be the messiah? D: If TC is starting a cult, I really think I should be the head religious figure. Just saying.

Yea! O'boy! TC doesn't even have a prophet yet, and there are splinter groups forming.

I can't wait for the theology, or rituals to be discussed.

Well, I'm obviously the triple god/dess of Ellen/Danny/Sage (Ellen being my birth name, Danny my male name, and Sage my TC name) and I like big words and funny hats, so we'll make MY tradition the Greater Orthodox Fellowship of Awesomeness and Brofists.

I read it in the order written, probably why I was under the mistaken impression that it all led to Jesus Christ as Messiah.

    Ya'll are cracking me up.

I don't want to be a Messiah. That whole dying for the faith thing blows.

I suggest a textbook from my Hebrew Bible class: Who Wrote the Bible? by Richard Elliott Friedman. It takes an interesting look at the Four-Source Hypothesis, which takes the view that four distinct sources were involved with the creation of the Old Testament, and at least one redactor who wove the strands together.

I don't think the order written is how the jews read it, and since you have to convince THEM, you need to read the Jewish scriptures, then go read the NT and see if it all matches up then.. And while you're at it, you should read some of the other gospels and books that didn't make it into the christian Bible, and see how they agree or disagree with the four that did. In some of the infancy gospels, Jesus is a little ass.

The other point is, I don't think the messiah is actually required by the Jews to die for the faith. That's the christian take on it.

BY the way, I support Heartshadow for messiah. (sniff, since she won't run away with me now that gay marriage is legal in Illinois, that;ll have to do.)

There is a good reason some of these books were not considered canon -- the infancy gospel that has Jesus killing animals/people that annoyed him and then bringing some of the back to life is an excellent example of this.

just pointing out that when you use all the stories of the time, it becomes obvious that they picked and chose, for authenticity reasons, and political ones. They may not be for both reasons, but for only one, and we may or may not really know which it is. That infancy gospel was no doubt rejected for political reasons. Possibly also for authenticity reasons as well.
