First time spells
Hi all,
Im very new to all this. Im beginning to consider myself a Pantheist Pagan. I would like to incorporate witchcraft in this, but I have never done a spell. I would probably perform it at night because that is when I feel at peace and stress free. I would like to perform a spell for happiness, and joy. I need something rather simple. Do I need to cast a circle or not? Thanks all!

Re: First time spells
There is a "Happiness/Comfort spell" in our spell grimoire. However, it's more for creating happiness in place of sadness or anger. I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for.

Re: First time spells
after casting your circle:
light a pink candle and light some apropriate incense(you can look up associations for scents on the web)
and sit and meditate or think on filling up with the emotion you'd like,or just let yourself drift off thinking of those things that do make you happy, then depending on what you'd like to use it for, either holding it in or projecting it out.
you could create a line or two of something to chant or request, but really it's all about intent and will.
all the objects scents and colours and herbs help make it seem more visceral, give you focus and all have their own energies that pile onto your own. but brick dust is just brick dust unless both you and the brick dust know its secrets and beleive in the brick dust...so to speak.
the brick dust won't work for you unless you want it to.
just like people. people won't necessarily help you unless you want them to and know they are there for that and ask them to help you, right?
anyway I ramble....oh and pink is just the first colour I thought of,white would work just as well.Ize bel zafen.

Re: First time spells
I know this is late, but I have a few questions about this spell. First, I have no jasmine oil. How essential is it that I use it? Is there something I could use to substitute it? Do I need an oil at all? Also, is there a time best to do it? I feel at my spiritual peak late at night, so maybe I should do it at night? Lastly, do I need to cast a circle, or can I simply perform the spell? Thanks!

Re: First time spells
there are other threads in here somewhere about circle casting, the whys wherefores and how tos....I tend only to cast circles when I'm concerned for keeping any harmful meddling energies out....or when Im dealing with deity in the ritual.
as for times: there's lists of associations on the net and in books of times of day, moon phases, days of week etc that might be of interest to you.
I do most of my work at night too.
as for that spell in particular: I tend to try not changing things if I'm using a spell of someone else's making. BUT if you look up substitutions and find something you do have that works in place of jasmine or has the same associations as why the jasmine was chosen then in a pinch it's cool.
if its used to dress the candle you can look up universal candle dressing oil and either infuse the carrier oil with stuff in kinda a hand made fashion,or find an oil that used with the right intent can be embued with the same associations as the jasmine oil. just like a white candle can be used in place of any coloured candle....anyone else have something to add, better answer? better description? correction?Ize bel zafen.
