I have done a lot of reading on Chaos magick and if I had tio pick any for of magick I would have to, say that out falls into my realm of interest however, I like working with the elements as well.

easiest way to do elemental magic for me is just be sure to include some of each in every spell you do.
like a candle or burning the ingredients is the fire, the herby bits are earth, incense smoke or your own breath is air and including a libation or spitting into the mix before you burn it is water.....

when I cleansed the boundrys of my house after I first moved in I first went over it with sage smoke, then carried a white candle around, then sprinkled moon water all the way around and lastly left a line of cornmeal or salt all the way around.

If that's a concept that appeals, it's certainly a paradigm that's valid for you.

Also would it be, for lack of better term, "practical" to come up with my own system per se based off of another?
That's a good basis for working, I think. Obviously, you'll personalise it for your own needs, but by adapting another system as opposed to building one from scratch, you at least have the basic building blocks in place.

Really, what I'd suggest you do is try and work out what results you want to come from this. Then just go ahead and do it without worrying whether things are 'right' or not. There comes a point with magic where the best way to move forward is through praxis.

That is one school of thought. I pull it in through my crown and feet and floww it out either through my hands (both) or just in general with a thought.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

I work with the elements all the time.
And the elementals (Undines of water, Sylphs of Air, Goblins or Gnomes of Earth, and Salamanders of Fire).

Mainly by calling to them for quarters in my circle casting... I name their qualities and thank them for the enrichment they give to my life...

Where they are placed in the circle is a matter for personal choice. Myself, I have Air to the North, Earth to the East, Fire to the South and Water to the West, but I know for others, this isn't how they work.

I have a close affinity to Water... and work with this more than any other...although Fire comes a close second with Earth and Air both coming in together after that.

To work with water is an obvious thing, you can put some plain tap water into a dish on your working space and there you go, or you can collect it from some special river or the sea, or rain, or whatever... I have a bottle of "world water" on my working space (from last years' Goddess Conference at Glastonbury) I also have some strand line finds such as shells, corals, "mermaids purses" (ray and shark egg cases) dried seaweed, and all that kind of thing... and a heart shaped loclet containing sand from my favourite beach...
Or pour yourself a ritual bath or have yourself a ritual shower...
I find it relates to cleansing, emotion, love, being born... it can be used to wash things clean in it, to give life to plants growing, to add things like crystals or herbs or oils to to it to annoint things or folk with it... and so fourth
You can scry by looking into water...
You can raise energy by swimming...
I also send little messages out to one of the Deities I am involved with by putting little foil pie tray "boats" into the tidal river, with a tea light, and a written message or gift of a flower or whatever...

To work with fire.. you can light a candle in your working space, some believe the colour is important while others say it doesn't matter, any will do... I am of the colour REALLY matters opinion myself...
That candle can be carved with a special message, or annointed with a certain oil (beware of over doing it in case of spreading the fire from the wick of course!)
Things can be passed over the flame to purify them... or the flame can be used to burn things to release their message into the ether...
I feel working with Fire relates to matters of will, of passion, of desire, of mind, of purpose, of consumption and so fourth
You can scry by looking into a flame...
I also work with a sensor... I have a collection of scented tea lights for this purpose and a collection of oils to evapourate in it...
Outdoors, a good bonfire warms the bones, and lights the darkness, gives opportunity to do other spells including destruction ones...cook potatoes and chestnuts... melt marshmallows... boil your cauldron over...

To work with Air, which I believe connects to ideas, thinking, inspiration, creativity, expansion, I have feathers and sycamore seeds on my working space, and a wind chime in my garden...
You can scry with clouds, or star gaze at night looking for shooting stars...
You can whisper on the wind to get your message across...
You can put messages onto a kite, and fly it..
You can go to a high place and get the wind up there to take your message written on a paper plane..

To work with Earth, which I believe connects to energies, for grounding and centering, for ridding ourselves of negativity... you can have a dish of dirt on your working space, and stones, crystals and pine cones, seeds, etc...
You can go stand barefoot on grass, or dig in the flower bed and plant things, make offerings to the Deities of agriculture...

Just some insight into my form of elemental magic
It's all about the Ebb and Flow...
