Assignments from The Gods
What are some of the things a deity has ever asked or expected of you?
Did you do it?
Why or why not?
If so, were you rewarded (for lack of a better word)?
If not, were there repercussions?
For me...
It's not uncommon to be asked to perform scripted rituals/magic. These I always do.
I was asked to stop smoking 7 years ago and haven't touched one since.
Similarly, I was asked to seek medical advice for a condition I was trying very hard to ignore and though it was painful, I am now healthy.
In essence a lot of what I am asked to do falls within the realms of personal growth, helping my family, and personal practice.
I believe being guided in the first place is rewarding in and of itself. But I have been given gifts in return on the odd occasion.
For things I haven't done (yet), I know the God/s in question are disappointed in me. I also know I have missed out on the benefits of said assignment. Mostly, if I don't do something it's due to fear. This is especially true when it comes to confronting personal issues (Shadow work).Guided be the hand and mind

Re: Assignments from The Gods
This is sort of difficult to answer. Mainly due to the fact following a shamanic / Green/Hedge witch type pathway I have various guides and such that also make demands upon me. At times they align with my divinities demands, other times not so much so. Then factor in that at times it's nearly impossible to tell one form the other when they both are pushing for the same thing.
It's like I knew I had to do a full ritual / ceremony and had an idea of when it was supposed to be done. Yet I really did not want to and figured i'd just put it off till I was ready. Well that didn't go over to well as I suddenly got really sick and could not shake it till I did that ritual / ceremony at the desired time. Once done my illness passed right away.
Another time I was positive I had to do a ritual / ceremony for all of my goddess, those being Artemis, Bast, Pahket & Hekate / Hecate. Had it all planned out to teh smallest detail, then when it came time to do it everything fell apart. Instead of holding it outside I held it inside before the window in our attic and then finished it upon our front porch. Items I had ment to use I didn't and had to make do with what was at hand. Was really upset with it but awoke the next morning to a severe snowstorm with abt 3 foot upon the ground. The area I would have used would have had my scent and touch all over it had I done the ceremony / ritual. That would have driven away the deer and small creature's that had bedded down in the area as a number of cedar tree's had collapsed and formed small protected domes teh animals stayed in for the next few days.
It's like I always new I would be in the military from my youngest memory. I always though it would be the Army. Yet in the end it was the Navy I served in and while one various deployments I discovered a lot about the goddesses I follow and the gods. Yet had I gone into the Army as I though I would i'd never have been in the position to experience those things. Figure as a Mistress of Animals Artemis also holds sway over the creature's of the sea and air. Hecate / Hekate as one of her sphere's of influence holds sway over the oceans and seas as well. Let me tell you there is no feeling like watchign the dolphins race with the ship, listening to the cry of whales in the darkness as it echoes over the waters. Watching a volcano erupt on the horizon as the setting sun outlines it. Those and many other things that are now but memories for me but for ever there.
I was on my way to work one morning and kept getting the sense I needed to stop and just walk off into the woods. The harder I tried to ignore the call the more it impacted upon me as I got motion sickness, pressing need for use the toilet and a car that started to stall. Finally I did get the idea and did stop and did walk off into the woods on the side of the mountain. I was inspired to write about it and was told it was one of the best pieces I had ever written.
Another time I was again driving and had this overwhelming need to stop and get out. Tried to ignore it till I couldn't and finally did stop. Walked up into a field near dusk and was thinking of Artemis when all of a sudden the deer who had been lying down jumped up and ran. Yet that was not the important part, it was the bear I finally noticed just ahead of me who had been standing and picking apples from the tree it was under. It turnt looked at me then went back to eating, me I left as it was time to go.
I've noticed that if I follow then I usually greatly enjoy what is revealed to me. If I resist then I tend to get extremely sick until I do respond to the prompting.

Re: Assignments from The Gods
Sekhmet expects me to learn. She expects me to wear my big girl panties and stop moping around about things. She expects a lot of things from me. Hetharu expects that I get in touch with my feminine side (seriously). She expects me to also stop moping about things and wear my big girl panties. She also expects me to get in touch with my mommy and her mommy aspects. These aren't the same thing as their asking me to do something however.
Hetharu has asked that I set up an altar for her and Bes when I move into my own house. Aside from that, and to call on her when I do Tarot readings more often, she hasn't asked anything of me. Sekhmet has asked that I donate blood in her name. I also believe that she recently asked me to start looking into herbal studies as a form of connecting with her/paying homage/etc, but I haven't gotten confirmation on that yet.
I plan on setting up the altar when I have the room. So, I can't answer in regards to that. To the blood donation, when I put it off, Sekhmet got buzzy in my head. I found it harder to connect with her since she had made it pretty damn obvious what she wanted. So, I guess that could have been a repercussion? The reason I put it off so long was due to fear, plain and simple. I've gotten over that fear and have donated three times in her name. She loves it.

Re: Assignments from The Gods
Occasionally, my main Lady Hekate asked for rituals/spells that were within her area of expertise. I executed them, and eventually saw the results unfolding as rewarding enough, even if the outcome didn't concern me directly.
One thing I think She asked me and I failed to work on, is opening up to oracular work... it scared me a little at the time, so ... ignored it after little researching ?
This is when She stopped to have clear and long conversations with me through tarot. She is still waiting for me to develop alternative ways to listen to Her and i suppose i'll eventually give in... once i read more on the subject.
Upon another time She hinted me that She wanted that I quit leving unifished all my attempts at novelization, and actually finish the book I was writing. Looking back, I would say that particular novel carries a lot of the things I have learned from Her over the years.“Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly.” ― Neil Gaiman *

Re: Assignments from The Gods
off the top of my head,I ask questions or what am I missing what do you want from me type questions and get replies ,most recently....Hecate told me when asking what I was missing as to why I hadn't had any type of dreams related to her....stop trying so hard, and worry about your fiancé first (arguments) then worry about hearing from me.
I had done my first daytime ritual to eshu/legba asking them to come be present then asking if they were one and the same or different or okay with being worshiped together as two aspects of one entity and they laughed at me and told me everything was fine a d to stop worrying about what others told me and just keep doing things as I was,all the things that felt right anyway. if it felt wrong then it wasn't going to work and there was a reason.
that's it as far as assignments....lolIze bel zafen.
Ize bel daleen.

Re: Assignments from The Gods
Cerridwen urges me to study history and to learn Welsh. Other Gods have just ask for me to remember them when I pray or ask for help. Amaethon in particular wants me to come to him first for anything, and he also asked me to worship is mother Don and pay tribute to his brothers as well. I usually do what I am asked, and usually I am helped in various ways.

Re: Assignments from The Gods
Help with wildlife rescue and relocation, physically when I was able, with meetings and fundraisers later. Not much lately.
Usually.Did you do it?
I agree with the goal and usually have the time. Why or why not?
Of course. My relationship was very transactional and there were always negotiations for payment involved. If so, were you rewarded (for lack of a better word)?
Mostly he went on to the next sucker on his list - occasionally, depending on where I was living, I would get a rude incursion of coy-dogs into my garbage. If not, were there repercussions?

Re: Assignments from The Gods
I'm asked to do things on a regular basis, although the complexity of those things varies. F'ex, Sekhmet considers my job in Pharma to be Her Work (TM) and therefore every work decision I make needs to uphold ma'at.
Neb.y Set is quite different. Heexpectsdemands that I make decisions and follow them through. He's less interested in the ultimate choice I make for most things but is adamant that I not dither. I must choose which fork to take and then go forward with determination.
For Sekhmet, I've done everything She's asked up to now, although my timing was probably slower on some things than She wanted. She's not (to date) held it against me, although I've received smacks in the head from time to time.Did you do it?
For Neb.y, I've not done everything He's directly asked of me but, at the same time, I have. As I said above, He's more interested in the process than the outcome on most things so even not doing what He asks is doing what He asks.
The "why" question is difficult to answer. I guess I try to do what is asked because the outcome helps me improve? Why or why not?
Knowledge is always the outcome, but the knowledge I get through acceptance is (usually) different from the knowledge I get through refusal. If so, were you rewarded (for lack of a better word)? If not, were there repercussions?...Fluid Morality - my spiritual blog

Re: Assignments from The Gods
Set has asked a variety of things. He requested I look into Shinto (did). He requested I get him a new, wooden shrine box (did). He has told me in the future that I need to prepare for doing daily ritual (or something) for him. Working on it.
Kami has requested I create an outdoor shrine for local.... stuff.
Osiris (O for short) has requested I better myself. Both he and Set want me to make my halves whole. They are both molding me into something... for some purpose or another.
Usually, yes. Some things are a work in progress, sure. But overall, I am working on, or have done what has been asked of me.Did you do it?
Because I feel like the gods know more than I do. I feel that listening to them is in my best interests. And generally speaking, it is. Although it can take time for me to see it, and there are many times when I am beating my head in asking myself why I signed up for this. Why or why not?
I suppose so. I usually feel more whole, more complete, and more at peace once something is done. Gods can really nag on you until you get stuff done. It's nice to have peace and quiet after something is finished (usually). If so, were you rewarded (for lack of a better word)?
Set just screams louder and louder till I do stuff. So far, this is the worst repercussion I've gotten. I've never let it get past that point to see what would happen. If not, were there repercussions?

Re: Assignments from The Gods
Nothing explicit--no visions or revelations or anything--but clearly my gods expect me to tell their story to the best of my ability. So I write their myths...slowly. They're very patient, thankfully.
But when I'm on the wrong track--when I'm botching the story--they let me know. I can just tell when it's going astray, and then have to rethink what I'm writing.
