Re: Does anyone work with/worship Thoth?
Ah, the age-old "thwap" question

I think a lot of people get hung up on being "thwapped". It's actually a really rare thing. Cauldronites are an odd bunch. There's a disproportionate number of people here who have had this happen to them.
Here's my understanding of what it means: having a fairly intense religious experience in which a Deity reveals themselves as one's patron. It sometimes results in the God asking for an intense committment. The relationship can bring challenges. My challenge is maintaining my committment to Ausir despite periodic periods where I feel disconnected. I've been in one of those for a few months, and it's been hard. I have to rely on faith and determination when I'm not "feeling" his presence.
Thwapping can mean that the God makes their presence obvious so that one feels motivated to make the committment. Then, they back off.
At times, this is actually painful.
There are benefits to having a patron. It means that one's path has focus, which can be comforting. It can give you a sense of belonging to somebody. Some people need that (It turns out that I'm one of them). What it doesn't do is make life easier.
The vast majority of Pagans do not have a patron. They still have fulfilling, rewarding, meaningful spiritual lives. I say don't focus on it too much. Focus on finding a path that will be meaningful to you whether you have a patron or not.
My relationship to Him has always been about study and magical practice. That was what I did for Him in the beginning. Once I started with the Kemetic path, I approached him with offerings. Occasionally, I will do formal rituals for Him, from Richard Reidy's book.
The best thing to do, IME is to start with simple offerings. Bread and pure water work fine. Just speak to him and ask for guidance in your own words. You don't have to do anything fancy, at first. Or ever. I talk a lot about formal ritual because that's my calling. Not everybody is wired that way.
Here is a thread on traditional offerings, if you want more ideas.
Good luck

Re: Does anyone work with/worship Thoth?
Don't worry, I was asking the thwap question because I was curious about what people's experience of it was besides the vague term "thwap" lol Lots of people have been telling me it's just fine not to be thwapped and not to worry about that or getting a patron at all, much less obviously. I'm listening to all of you, I promise! :3
thanks for the link, I'll take a look at it
