Re: Online Tarot Readings
Here's another online deck I tested a couple of times with good results:

It's simply beautiful to look at, even putting accuracy aside.“Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly.” ― Neil Gaiman *

Re: Online Tarot Readings
T-there's nobody else I can practice with who isn't on the computer!

Seriously, though? I understand how people attune better to physical presence and physical contact, but I can also see that it "works" even online, because... we're working with information, plain and simple. Wherever or however information can be transmitted, it will work. I might have a better connection if I have more information, of course, but I don't see why online readings shouldn't work at all.
As for the tarot layout generators... depends on what belief system I'm aligned to that day. When I feel the universe it working like clockwork with every event being an echo of bigger things to come, then it doesn't matter if there was somebody holding the deck or not. The cards themselves are sign enough. Most days, though, my paradigm is more like living things and minds are needed to make connection and get things rolling, so then the tarot layout generators don't do anything for me.Last edited by triple_entendre; 8 Jul 2012 at 09:32 PM. Re: Online Tarot Readings
I'm also on a major tarot forum, and this has been a subject of much heated debate. Most agree that the computer-generated readings aren't there yet, but think they will be someday.
Regarding human on-line readings, it seems that most of the people who do them are professionals who want the increased "bean-count" (Plus, they can read in their pajamas
) They take questions by e-mail, do the spread, and then e-mail the reading back, with no other interaction with the client until after the fact, if at all (well, some - but not many - do use Skype and web-cam interfaces). Their justification is that their readings are entirely intuitive, and they don't need to have the querent there for it to work. And yet they refuse to acknowledge that their approach is purely psychic, and they don't really need cards to do that. Call me old-fashioned, but I want the give-and-take and immediate feedback of a face-to-face encounter, since there are many subtleties in a reading that can only be satisfactorily examined with the querent's active input.

Re: Online Tarot Readings
I've found that to be true, too. Even in tarot forums where the exchange is for practice, there's this sense of that, after I post, it's "done" -- they then tell me if I hit any bull's eyes or missed by a mile. I prefer, in the few live readings I've done, where I mention like the six of chalices seems to indicate that a child is involved but I'm getting the intuitive sense that it's not their blood relation, and they can interrupt me with "Oh my wife has a son from a previous marriage and we don't get on well." And the rest of the reading would be clearer from then on, instead of my just posting guesses that use intuition as a springboard. (You've worked as a teacher? Babysitter? Adopted a child? Fostered a niece or nephew's best friend? -- All wrong, of course.)

'You had to repay, good or bad. There was more than one type of obligation.
That’s what people never really understood.….Things had to balance.
You couldn’t set out to be a good witch or a bad witch. It never worked out for long.
All you could try to be was a witch, as hard as you could.'

Re: Online Tarot Readings
I'm pretty cynical of online readings without a human involved, but clicked on that just for the pretty. The reading I got was so spot-on I nearly cried. (And I never cry. About anything. Ever.)
So I hit 'back' and did another, just to see some different cards... and blow me down if I didn't get exactly the same message, just worded differently.
