Re: TC User names. How did you choose yours?
Iulla is the feminine version of Iullus, which is the archaic version of the Roman name Iulius. Iulius is the original Latin of the name Julius, i.e. Julius Caesar. I'm a classicist with a love of Roman history, so the name kind of stuck.
And I'm not talking about the famous Orange Julius drink here, but that's pretty good, too...

Re: TC User names. How did you choose yours?
To cut my usually-very-long explanation short, I believe that performing magic is effectively a placebo: there's nothing 'real' going on but the effect on the human mind, even if they know it's a placebo*, is to cause the intended effects of the medicine.
And seeing as my magic works much better when my altars and sigils and charms are aesthetically pleasing, I figured it required a good dose of artistry.
*But what if you just come right out and tell somebody, without any ambiguity, that they are taking a placebo? One classic study from 1965 offers a clue, although it was small and without a control group, so once again, buyer beware.
They gave a pink placebo pill three times a day to patients they termed “neurotic”, and the explanation given to the patients was startlingly clear about what was going on.
Here is the standardised script which was prepared, and carefully read out to each patient:
“Mr Doe … we have a week between now and your next appointment, and we would like to do something to give you some relief from your symptoms. Many different kinds of tranquillisers and similar pills have been used for conditions such as yours, and many of them have helped. Many people with your kind of condition have also been helped by what are sometimes called ‘sugar pills’, and we feel that a so-called sugar pill may help you, too. Do you know what a sugar pill is? A sugar pill is a pill with no medicine in it at all. I think this pill will help you as it has helped so many others. Are you willing to try this pill?”
They got good results. Go figure, or rather: go buy shares in the homeopathy industry. Sugar pills are the future, if only there was a way to give them with integrity, and a straight face.

I got the screen-name "Sharysa" from a Harry Potter forum waaaay back when I was twelve-ish, and it stuck. Mostly because it was least likely to be taken. :P
The Y tends to confuse people for some reason. All but one of my friends needed to ask "How do you say it?" first."The sadness, the doubt, all the loss, the grief, will belong to some play from the past; as the child leads the way to a dream, a belief, a time of hope through the land." -Ilse (Spring Awakening)

Re: TC User names. How did you choose yours?
My handle on the old board was a play on my real name, and soon became a bit too traceable for comfort, so I grabbed the chance to change when we moved over here.
Chatelaine is French for 'keeper of the keys' or 'lady of the manor'. I picked it at the time as a connection to Hecate, and maintaining it as a reminder that I'm not to hand over control of my life to others. I only use it here (and on VF, which I no longer visit anyway).O quam mirabilis est inspiratio, que hominem sic suscitavit!~Hildegard von Bingen~

Re: TC User names. How did you choose yours?
"Malia" is both a variant of and a reference to the song "Qualia" by Hachi. The song is basically about this girl who's all alone in a pure white world with nothing in it. She starts getting depressed about it, and then multicolored objects and animals come out of nowhere to make up for it. She starts wondering what her own colors are, like that of her eyes, and gets upset about not being able to see her own self. The world is overwhelming, and she realizes that it wasn't really what she wanted. Then some guy appears and offers her an apple, saying that it suits her. She accepted the apple, which symbolized the love which she also ended up accepting.
So my username, which is derived from the Latin root for "apple", references the song. Also, it happens to be one of the sacred trees of the Druids (or so I've read in a good number of books).

Re: TC User names. How did you choose yours?
Well, I chose ConjureWitchery as my name because I practice conjure (folk magic, hoodoo, low magic, etc.) and I practice witchery (religious witchcraft, rituals, ceremonial magic, etc.). I use this name wherever I am on the 'net. My blog title is "Conjure Witchery" and I'm known on other forums by ConjureWitchery.

Re: TC User names. How did you choose yours?
My reasons are fairly transparent and boring and I honestly didn't put much thought into choosing a name. I chose the "Earth" part because my ever-deepening reverence for Her is what put me on this path in the first place, and I chose "Mom" because, well, I'm a mom. I have two beautiful, perfect daughters who define me as much as my spirituality does. I live for them. <3
