Every time I see this thread pop up, I mean to post, but then I can't figure out what to say. It seems like such a big, important thing sometimes, and such a simple thing other times. Not that "big and important" and "simple" are mutually exclusive...
My screen name is Aster Breo because that is the name Brighid gave me and the name She calls me. And I really love it.
The "Aster" part is straight up for Brighid. As a link to the word "star", it's an explicit reference to the sun and, therefore, to Brighid. It also refers to Her role as Lady of the Stars, which is a very important piece of SPG for me. And it refers to the family of plants that includes sunflowers, dandelions, and daisies, all of which are traditional symbols of Brighid. Plus, it reminds me of the star form of the compass rose, which is one element of the symbol I use for my spiritual path. So that's a nice bit of serendipity all around.
(Plus, waaaay back in high school, my D&D name was "Astrid" -- which I had completely forgotten about until a friend reminded me AFTER I chose "Aster" as my screen name.)
The "Breo" part is private, between Brighid and me. That part actually came to me first, and, while I'm comfortable using it the way I am, it didn't feel...complete... Hence, the "Aster" part.
Like others who have posted in this thread, I took the opportunity of TC's last move (or was it the move before that...?) to change my screenname. I used to use the name "Moon Ivy", which -- despite how it looks -- means absolutely nothing to me spiritually.
I first joined TC 6 or 7 years ago, as far as I can remember, and I happened to be sitting in a hotel room at the time. When the registration process asked for a screen name, I looked up and saw the hotel room generic painting, which was of an ivy plant. But that didn't feel complete. Then I glanced out the window and saw the full moon. And I just put the two together.
I use "Aster" or "Aster Breo" for most of my internetting now, except for the places where I first registered before I "found" Aster. Like on Live Journal, where I use "Jean," f'ex.
To be honest, Aster is the name I'm most comfortable with now, in general. It's the closest I've gotten to my "real" name. If I could, I'd switch to it IRL, but there's too much baggage there right now.
Anyway... That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
~ Aster

Re: TC User names. How did you choose yours?
I chose Serpent because I've always had a fascination with snakes (and reptiles of all kinds). I currently keep and breed a few different species in my home and plan on expanding my collection to include many other species. Currently I keep Ball Pythons, Corn Snakes, a Columbian Red Tail boa, a King Snake. I have plans to also keep Super Dwarf Retics, Blood Pythons, Western Hognose, and a few others.
The name has no real significant spiritual purpose.
