18 Days of Chasity

I wanted to come to you all because you usually have great things to say. The moon is in Venus tonight, and I have crafted together a ritual that requires me to become chaste for 18 days (ending in Imbolc). This means absolutely no sexual contact of any kind, absolutely no pornographic movies or images, and no masturbation. If you knew me in person, you would know that that statement is basically impossible. XD

But of course I'm going to go through with it. I've actually been struggling a lot here lately as far as my sex life is concerned. It's not that I don't get enough sex, on the contrary, I sometimes think that maybe it's a bit too much...sometimes, I feel like sex is everywhere, and that its inescapable. I've been struggling with the though of even being a "sex addict", yet I always reassure myself that I'm a twenty year old man and that it's hormones. But I do thoroughly enjoy sex, as most people do, and I think it should never be mediocre or low brow...which it truly has been of late. I've lost my sense of sexual passion, I have lost my sense of looking to people for emotional support instead of a quick fix, and to be honest, I believe this stems from some void inside me that desperately wants to be filled.

So as a sacrifice on this Friday the 13th, with the moon in Venus, I am going chaste in Her honor for 18 days. I made a paper chain, much like the ones we made in elementary school to count down the days until Christmas, and on each chain, I've written a different act of love or kindness to be carried out on that day. I feel as though the love I send out and the personal sacrifice I made will greatly reward me in the end. Do I think my true love will find me miraculously in the end? Well, of course not. But I do think I'll learn something great from this.

Support would be greatly appreciated, and please don't try to talk me out of this, as many of my friends have. This is a personal commitment that I truly feel as though I strongly need to carry out.

I find the choice of dedication .. odd. Venus IS about sex as well as love - it seems like a bad offering idea.

The rest of it could be very powerful - but chastity to Venus? isn't that like peace to Ares or something?

However, I am a bit confused that you are devoting chastity to a love goddess. That would be like devoting peaceful acts to Mars or willful ignorance to Minerva. I would suggest you leave Venus out of your ritual.

I think it's great you have made this kind of committment, not talking you out of anything here. There are many types of love. Dedicating yourself to other types that are not physical is a lovely tribute to Venus.

It's basically my way of showing Her that Her blessings will no longer be taken for granted. From now on, I will chose quality over quantity.

If I understand your reasoning correctly, sex doesn't bring you the fulfillment you seek, and therefore it becomes a corruption of her gifts. In this context a period of abstaining may actually be a good idea of an offering.

Honestly, somehow I feel like you're still looking for a quick fix. Only now it's from a god rather than a guy. Don't sweat it.

Fulfilment isn't, IMHO, something you find in others anyhow. It's something to be, not get.

I agree. As I understand you, r2squared, the offering of chastity is not a rejection of sex, but a period of abstinence meant to foster a stronger appreciation of it. It sounds to me like the point of it all was that the sex wasn't including the act of LOVE involved to make it holy. I see nothing wrong with devoting a period of time to the asexual aspects of love, and doing this in her name.
