So, I keep waiting and waiting and waiting for a reply from unemployment, but still nothing. It will have been a month as of this upcoming Tuesday. Anyway, when I asked for a reading from my friend, I was told that there were obstacles in the way. Considering I had gotten this message before (and thought I had figured it out), I'm at a loss. I don't know what in the world this 'obstacle' or the 'obstacles' are. I just don't flippin' get it. I don't know what this obstacle is and whenever I ask for clarification, I get "negativity." Well, I thought I was pretty damn entitled to some negativity, considering.

So. Please, please will someone explain to me (via runes, Tarot, the stars, anything) what in the hell this/these obstacle(s) is/are and why I'm not allowed to be negative about all of this.

Without cracking a deck, just flying by the seat of my pants: there's a difference between being negative about the experience (which, yes, I'd say you have every right to be) and letting that negativity get in your way as you move past it.

Not saying you're doing that, just positing a possible interpretation.

I'll give it a try today or tomorrow.

I did the 'Hero Spread' with the Mythic Oracle because I often find this helpful in shedding light on challenges. However I have difficulties to make sense of the cards, but maybe some of it makes sense to you.

Here's the result:

1. current quest (how you go about finding work): Prometheus - sacrifice

2. obstacle on the way to your goal: Rhea - protection

3. hidden gift (an inner quality you have to harness for this task): Pan - sexuality

4. magical assistance (support from outside): Hestia - home

5. initiation (a transformation you're undergoing by meeting the challenge): Apollo - clarity

6. treasure to be gained: Ares - battle


Interpretation:
I was most startled by Pan in the third position, but after reading the entry in the book, I wonder if it could mean finding your way of productivity by being more playful and in contact with your natural passions (after all sexuality is a kind of productivity).

Prometheus in the quest position might indicate that you try to find a job by sacrificing a lot, Rhea in the obstacle position might point to an inner force trying to protect yourself from sacrificing too much, which might counter your job search. When I look at Pan in the hidden gift position my feeling about this is that it's not a question of overcoming your sense of self-protection which might rightfully prevent you from sacrificing too much, but instead look at the wild natural force which is ready to be productive and wants to give that what you are able to give from your own natural disposition. So my guess would be that you're looking in a direction where you can't succeed, instead of looking where your own abilities and passions are.

Hestia on the assistance position suggests that you have some kind of home - maybe your partnership, family or a spiritual home which supports you in your search.

Apollo in the initiation position suggests that you will find clarity in the process of your job search (sorry for that being very obvious from what you already told about your question). I think it might be clarity of what kind of job is right for you.

Treasure to be gained: Ares - This is not so obvious. My feeling is that this builds an opposite to Prometheus, instead of sacrificing yourself for a job you might learn to fight for yourself.

I hope I expressed myself clearly - that I took this card more metaphorically in meaning any kind of ability which you naturally possess and are passionate about. I have no idea what it is, it might be art, cooking, caring for animals whatever...

It may not be you that's the problem, necessarily SatSekhem. There's so many out of work. It may just be that there'e such a lack of staffing to be able to manage the heavy workload. There's so many of us out of work and/or going back to school, it's not funny! Some of the unemployment workers also don't help-their attitudes could definitely do with an adjustment (I'll be nice and not insert my personal views on such people ) Sending some hugs your way, hoping they'll help in the meantime ((()))

I took the Prometheus card to mean that I had been sacrificed. To be completely honest, I was pretty sure that the reason I was losing my job because "my overlord" (euphemism) would have been shown to be failing at her job, which was to assist me as a new manager in a new store. Instead, she left me up to my own devices because she couldn't handle the workload. She had to work with about half of the managers, since they were new, and there were about 12 to 15 of us at one given time. So, I was relegated to the background since (A) my store was out of the way and (B) it didn't seem like I would say something to anybody about it. (Which I didn't and look where that got me.)

Rhea, I think, has to do with the fact that I tried to protect myself from this very situation, but failed. I think that the whole 'failure' aspect is a major hindrance to any type of goal because I seriously doubt that I have any magical to-do about myself. I know that Papa Legba came in and purposely messed about with things so that I'd lose my job (and therefore, stop complaining) but it still messes with my head. I think another aspect of this card stems from my unwillingness to look over the situation with a critical eye and see if/when I failed. I also am 'protecting' myself from the grieving process because it really, really, really hurt that they would sacrifice me on the altar for a girl who is ten years younger than me, immature, and unwilling to sacrifice her life to maintain a job. There are other aspects that I'm protecting myself from (the fact that no one who still works there will really speak with me; the fact that the father-figure I had picked up while working there didn't warn me or even stand up for me... etc.).

I haven't a damn clue about Pan. That rings for me in other areas, but not in this one. I tried finding a picture of the card to see if I can glimpse anything from it, but I can't. So... your guess is as good as mine!

The Hestia card does have to do with a spiritual home and its support of me. However, I've been turning away from said home and ignoring it for my own practical matters. This is both aggravating to the spiritual home (and its residents) in question, as well as not helping me in the slightest.

The Apollo card is fairly obvious. In fact, I think it's that card and its position that is the most easily interpreted. I think it's a period of initiation for clarity of thought. This whole thing has messed me up fairly bad (though I am loathe to admit it to anyone). But, it has also forced me to realize that while I was really good at that type of job, I don't want to do it anymore. I do not want to have to work for some huge corporation to maintain my lifestyle. It's really made me realize what my ultimate plans and goals are (starting with Tarot reading professionally and branching out from there into other magical-related realms). However, it's also made me realize that I miss it. I miss the interaction with the customers and the regulars who came in all the time. So, it's a dichotomy: I don't want to rely on it, but I miss doing it. There's the clarity.

I think Ares is telling me that, out of all of this, I will have the wherewithal to battle stuff out. That I will remember that I have the inner strength for all of this. And that I can do this, no matter how I feel.
