Looking for Answers to Paranormal Phenomenas

So I'm new here and looking for answers, I have been "aware" of many different things in my life that most people are not "aware" of. I am aware of other "spirits" and when I am around them. Sometimes that is a very bad thing, I've learned some are very bad! Also I am aware of other people's "feelings" I think some call it an aura. I also have horrible dreams of things that happen, that may and may not be related to me. This past spring I dreamed about the one of the awful tornadoes that hit and killed many, right before it happened. A few other members of my family are the same way and the ones who know anything about it will not talk about it. All I want to know is why and how to control this. I've went looking for answers in so many different places, and I guess I'm looking again.

I do not have as many experience as you do, however I have been taking some intuition classes from an intuitive and Reiki teacher and she has also studied Shamanism. I asked her a similar question as how I could protect myself. (I had a feeling that some thing was in my room and asked if they were of love and light and if not thst they needed to leave. I have not felt it since.)
I think you need to do some reasearch on how to best ground and center yourself if you have had experiences of the " negative" sort. I am sure there are many who know much more than I ,but in my limited experience you need to set a boundry around you with the intention that only love and light are able to come through Becsuse you are in control and trust in the higher good to be around and protect you.
Anyway since then she has taught me to say a prayer(to whatever higher spirit you believe in) I use a prayer to the Living Christ because i like the prayer and that is my belief)then ground myself, then envision a purple light around above and below -either the room , the home, the property, (whatever you choose-I do them all,) followed by a flame silver- white -golden again around above and below. I believe the more aware you are of this and the more often you practice it the stronger it becomes. This is just my belief, anyway someone else may have an equally useful ,but different method.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else has any other practices as well.

I do not have as many experience as you do...

I have had more experience than I I've wanted with negative malicious spirits, It got to the point a couple months ago that I Could not even sleep anymore. At that point I had to say enough is enough and do some research, now i hadn't been bothered in at least a month. But now I'm having problems not picking up "feelings" from other people and since I go to a big college that makes it worse. But thanks for the tip I'll try that and maybe it'll help me.

Hi, I too can see and hear other entities/spirits/ghosts - whatever you want to label them as - and when I was a small child, my grandmother taught me to build a brick wall (think of the 3 little piggies and the big bad wolf story and you'll see how she helped me to "visualise" the construction of the wall. She always taught me to say (to myself, not out loud) "in peace and with love, I lay this brick to protect me from harm", and repeat this until every brick was laid. Now, I control what I see and hear - when I lift my Tarot cards and start to shuffle I use another little phrase that opens the wall - just slightly.

This has worked for me for well over 40 years. In all that time I can only think of two occasions when I have experienced ghosts without lifting my Tarot cards. Here's one:

My husband and I had returned home from a shopping trip, loaded down with groceries. As we entered the front door, I looked into the living room, and there was my father sitting on the couch with a lovely smile on his face, and a twinkle in his eye - I said, "Hi, Dad", and my husband who was directly behind me, looked in and said "Hi, Hugh", and we both continued into the kitchen to deposit the bags of groceries. It was only then that we both turned to each other ..... and ran back to the living room......... but my Dad wasn't there. He had passed away over 5 years previously. I like to think that he was letting me know that he was "healed" and was moving on to a better place. My husband had never seen a ghost before, and it really unsettled him. Oh, the poor bunny.......

I have never saw or heard from my father again.

Why? Because you are special and somehow your third eye never got fully closed.

Control it? HA! Good luck! Seems they can tell you know they are there. I once took a roomful of "relatives" back to the cemetery, took them back to their graves and told them to "SIT AND STAY", it worked for a while but they are slowly filtering back in, not to mention the ones that were not already there, that have passed on since seem to think they don't have to "SIT AND STAY"

I often wonder why me too, but then again I think there must be a reason for it. Luckily I haven't run across an "bad" ones, mostly just the ones that like to take things and hide them, wake my kids up at night, make noises etc. I have boundaries and for the most part they tend not to cross the line. Lately thou a couple of them have been bothering my 12 year old, I'm going to have to have a talk with them about that he does need his sleep and as fun as it is for them to play with the child it's not nice on school nights! Sometimes I see them as protectors against the bad spirits and that's why I tend to ignore the harmless things they do since I haven't had any real problems with them hanging around I don't get all worked up about it. As long as it's peaceful and harmless it's all good here, they keep me on my toes!!!

Actually, you MAY be an Empath...I am not real sure as to how it works in others, but in MY experience, I feel what others are feeling. You may want to do some research...or perhaps someone around here can help...and see if that may be what is going on with you.

Sorry I've been off due to a traumatic wreck with a semi, but you are very lucky that you had your grandmother. The belief in ghosts or any sort of magic is completely unaccepted in my area, so I've been all self taught but I've been trying with something very similar to a brick wall but I've not been very successful yet, I've learned protection crystals help a lot though. It is nice to know I'm not the only one though.

I laughed so hard at the "SIT AND STAY"!! I've told mine to leave me alone and to go away but... that does not work. So for the most part if they are not doing anything mean I ignore them and let them do their own thing. However you are very lucky you've had no dealings with the bad ones I've had to move 3 times this past year (for college) and seems my worst one has attached its self to me, but as I said before it dont like protective crystals, which is fine with me. He tried to blow up a pan of grease in my face a couple months back and I finally said enough is enough. But I agree it is a gift, I like being able to "know" things that others don't and have them ask me how do you know that, it also helps me help other people, but I could do without on that one particular "spirit".

I think you may be right when it was suggested before I did some research and from what I could find, it fits. I do feel what others feel and sometimes what others think. It makes it very easy to tell what peoples intentions are, and that can really help if people are hiding things from me. Say someone is intending to use me to get something they want or to someone, I can usually "feel" their intentions and emotions, and sometimes but rarely a mental image of whatever it is, and I just stay away from them. But I had never heard of it before it was mentioned, so I'm still new to it all and trying to learn more about it.

Actually you are completely right! I have found so many answers since I posted this, being an empath apparently tends to attracted anything that can feed off them, hence the problems with negative spirits as well. I found an Empath community that has answered so many of my questions. community.empathzone.com Thats it if anyone else might need some similar answers. They will help even if your not sure what exactly type of gift you may have.
