Re: Having a Patron that most don't
Hi, Fier! You're right, myth really doesn't tell a lot about him. I remember that when I first started consciously working with him, I became very easily frustrated with how entangled the Greek and Roman pantheons became, and how interchangeably the names of their deities were used. It's since ceased to bother me. In retrospect, I'm actually glad because lacking a lot of information on him made it easier for me to develop a personal relationship with him, whereas with some of my other deities, I sometimes had to over-come preconceived notions. He was adopted from the Greek Hades. I chose to worship him as Pluto because (the planet) Pluto was conjunct Midheaven when I was born and Scorpio (ruled by Pluto) was in my tenth house.
Okay, Pluto. God of Death, the dead, and the Underworld. He is the son of Saturn and Op/Opis. Brother of Jupiter and Neptune. he is often confused or combined with Pluotos/Plutus a Greek God of wealth and and pluton (a type of rock) and so winds up being ascribed with dominion over wealth, rocks, minerals, and mines. He has a helmet which grants invisibility to the wearer and was said to have rode black chariot pulled by black horses. Winter is his season on the wheel of the year. The abduction of and marriage to Proserpine is pretty well covered, as you said, and mirrors the tale of Hades and Persephone.
Okay time for some serious UPG: In my experience he has helped me get in touch with subconscious mind and the shadow aspects of my personality. I've found him to be extremely patient with me (I have a really bad habit of doing things the hard way). He does seem to like things that come from the earth -- rocks, metal, dirt. He rules my life in so many ways. Metaphorically, I'm almost constantly dying and being reborn and he has been an excellent patron for that kind of life path. He has also helped me in access hidden and forgotten knowledge and assisted me in meditation. He seems to like turning up in dreams. He helped me through and showed me the way out of an incredibly difficult period in my life. He has also been pretty "low-maintenance" in the relationship I have with him.
Wow, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to prattle on. I really love talking about him."Modesty is an illusion" -- de Sade

Re: Having a Patron that most don't
The only other thing I know about him is his other name, Dis, which means wealth or riches. Dis Pater means 'father of riches'.
That's okay! I have an interest in the Roman gods so I get excited to talk with people who work with them.Wow, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to prattle on. I really love talking about him."If you believe in love you're always alive" -- Our Lady Peace

Re: Having a Patron that most don't
For years I thought my patron was Odin, but recent spiritual events have forced me to step back and re-evaluate that belief. I'm still not 100% sure who my patron is, but I think Loki is a distinct possibility.
I know I'm not alone among those who honor or otherwise respect Loki, but he is very controversial in the Heathen community at large. In the Rokkatru community he is well respected, loved and honored.
While I research Rokkatru, I am currently studying Loki and his myths. And trying to figure out how I might go about honoring him.
