So, I happened to mention at various moments that I've never had a connection with Set before. And honestly, it kind of feels like most of the Kemetics on this forum have some form of connection with the Red Haired One. And this got me thinking that it's not just simply Kemetics who've connected with him, either. I can think of at least two pagans who've danced his dance before and were never of a strictly Kemetic bent.

And this made me wonder... Why is it that some gods of certain pantheons shoot out of their pantheons when people who want to worship in that specific... sphere of influence are ignored?

As an avid reader of your blog (with a growing interest in Sekhmet :D) I have to ask, do you really want Set and Sekhmet not just in the same room, not just on the same altar, but in your head together? XD No offense to either Netjeru, but they're both kinda nuts lol could you imagine the insanity? And then add in Papa Legba, oh you'd have so much extra stuff to blog about that makes me laugh rofl

Sutekh would be more like throwing me over the cliff, while Sekhmet is more like throwing me into the wall. Legba is that guy in a boat who likes to watch you try and swim in twenty-foot swells, laughing his ass off. It'd be an interesting experience. Heh.

Sometimes you gotta go with what works and play catch-up later. Long as they are happy, you are happy, and you find no locusts in the toilet bowl, it doesn't much matter what other people think or whether or not you're connecting to an entire pantheon.

LOL! THIS! Love it! I like the idea of pantheon in theory much better than I actually do in reality. For some people I'm sure it works, but for some it doesn't. I know it wouldn't for me. You can't force connection to a god if they just aren't interested in you, ya know? Or vice versa.

I think there's some levels of connection, too. I wouldn't be able to support (or maybe survive is a better word for it) a deep, personal connection with an entire pantheon. But giving devotion to a few, and "bartering" (for lack of better terminology) with other members for specific things? That I could see. (For instance, you may be a devotee of Aphrodite and keep a small shrine for Hestia in the kitchen, even if you don't "talk" to her in the same way.)

In terms of human relationships, I might share a common interest in anime with other fans, but that doesn't mean I'm going to like someone just because they like the same show that I do (assuming, of course, that it would be possible to meet every anime fan on the planet). I don't think the gods have that problem, though, they could easily look at a group of humans and say: "This one's mine," or "There's something I want this person to learn," or whatever.

Quoted for truth. The Morrigan did more for me in a week than anyone else I've known because her whole "stop taking shit from people if it doesn't feel right to you" was entirely different from my former "if I compromise with everyone, I can get by" mindset.

I only have Sekhmet (of those two) in my head - and find Her to be quite the welcome and benevolent presence. When I muttered something about never seeing Her darker side, I got a clear and sharp "Be glad you don't need to!"

Honestly, sometimes the quietest gods can give you a loop, or a run for your money. O is really quiet for most folks. But he has run me through the ringer at some point.

There was a time when I was working with Aset and Set at the same time. That was a doozy. But it was a different type of crazy than S and O bring to the table.
