Deities and Homosexuality
Hey everyone
I have a question. what are your views on deities and Homosexuality. My personal Opinion I think the deities love everyone no matter gay, straight, Pansexual or Bisexual. But The reason why I posted this is, sometimes Ill meet somone and they will start preaching how there God doesnt like a certain type of people and it bothers me and offends me. What are your views on all of this. Thanks

Re: Deities and Homosexuality
Here's the thing. I think that the vast majority of deities don't care about the vast majority of people. They care about the people who are interesting to them, for whatever reason. (For some deities, that's shared culture. For some, it's shared interest/profession/where they spend their time. For some, it's other stuff.)
I don't think gender orientation by itself is a particularly large deciding factor, though for some deities, biological fertility/procreation is a major area of interest, and there are obviously ways that orientation affects that.
My general approach to people who say "My God doesn't like people who...." is to ask "How do you know that?" because I am generally curious like that.
The other approach is to recognise that sometimes people say things like that because they're trying to justify their own preferences. I tend not to like to hang out with people who do that kind of justification regularly (even if I agree with the outcome, which I don't when it comes to orientation) so I'm more inclined to go off and do things elsewhere and not take other stuff they say as seriously.Limen: Thoughts from a Threshold (my blog) :: http://gleewood.org/threshold

Re: Deities and Homosexuality
Well, I know (at least from my experience) that Anpu doesn't really care about orientation, considering the fact that I'm bisexual, panromantic, and bigendered, and He seems to like me a lot. XD I can't really say for other deities, but I honestly can't see why they would care all that much (unless, of course, fertility has something to do with the deity and what He/She stands for).
<3 Rest in peace, Christiana. I love you so much, and I miss you like crazy already. At least you're not hurting anymore...May you ascend. <3

Re: Deities and Homosexuality
The way I see it, Christianity has an issue with homosexuality because the sole purpose of sex is supposed to be procreation -hence the fact it can't be done with any form of anticonceptional measures or outside marital bed. Obviously homosexual sex can't result in children, so it's considered sinful.
Pagan deities - at least the one i knew so far - don't view sex the same way and don't find sensual pleasure as unseemly.
In Greek Pantheon, some gods have a more 'fluid' sexuality than others -Dionysos, Hermes, Apollon all had both women and men as lovers.

Re: Deities and Homosexuality
My perspective has always been that "if it occurs in nature, there's a reason for it." Homosexuality and pan-sexuality does occur in nature, so there's a reason for it. From there, I imagine deities are pretty zen about who you're attracted to/who you sleep with in most consent-based situations.

Re: Deities and Homosexuality
I'm always amused by the homophobia that occasionally pops up among Heathens. There's a certain well-known author who made a statement that it was okay if you were gay and a priest of Freyr, but Odin and Thor are "too masculine", 'cause, you know, gay men are always effeminate, and we all know Odin and Thor are manly gods who would never demean themselves by dressing like a bride or learning the "unmanly" art of seidr!
Oh, wait...
Anyways, the Viking Answer Lady has a great article on homosexuality in viking Scandinavia: http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/gayvik.shtml
Honestly, if a deity didn't like someone of a specific orientation, I don't think they'd bother interacting with that person. I'm sure there are plenty of other deities who would be happy to receive offerings from an LGBT+ (how many letters are there, anyways? I've seen LGBTTIQA) person.
