Re: Cultural Appropriation - Yay or Nay?
I guess you haven't been following the news about Fauxahantes, aka Elizabeth Warren of Harvard. She listed herself as Native American at various law schools until she got tenure at Harvard. Of course Harvard isn't going to say she was hired over somebody else for being part Native American, although she was hired shortly after the school got hit for not being diverse. She was listed as part of their diversity.
Turns out she's not even 1/32nd. The great great grandfather wasn't a Cherokee, he just helped to force the Cherokees on the Trail of Tears.

Re: Cultural Appropriation - Yay or Nay?
what I saw, if they mentioned what the hiring board said at all, which most of them didn't, but the boston globe, I think, said that the hiring board, when asked, said her 'native american' was not known to them, but only came out later, after she was hired. Not that Harvard didn't use it to tout diversity, but that's what the unidentified person said.
